Holding
Grudges.
The Blood-Feud of Toad-Water by H.H. Munro. In this story there are two
families that live next door to eachother. The Cricks which raise chickens for hatching and the Saunders who cultivate crops.
They are farmers, neighbors, and most importantly family. They do not talk to one another because their work is contradictory
towards one another.
One day the best hen from the Crick families farm crosses over
to theSaunders farm and begins eating onions. When Mrs. Saunder saw what the hen had done she started screaming at Mrs. Crick
using profane language. They yelled back and forth bringing up relatives who were alcoholics and criminals as a sort of kick
in under the belt. When the finished their dual, the walked away in silence, never to ammend their already nonexistent realtionship.
This argument had made the men and children of both families cut off all cordial ties. The only thing connecting the two
families was their cats mad kittens and Mrs. Saunders made sure she got rid of them. In the end nothing good came from an
already sour relationship. I believe the lesson of the story is that people especially family need to work together because
holding grudges is not the way to live life. The petty behavior on both parts ruined something that could have been great
